Aponogeton ulvaceus is a stout plant which demands large tanks with a good amount of water surface. The leaves are translucent, bright green with a narrowed leaf base. The leaves are typical 20-50 cm long (occasionally up to 100 cm at optimum growth conditions), 3-10 cm broad and wavy on the sides. The primary form of Aponogeton ulvaceus is rather rare, and most available plants are hybrids. As many other Aponogetons this plant requires a period of rest. In winter cut off the roots and leaves and put it into unwashed sand in flowerpots in cold water for two months in a dark place. Or less circumstantial, place the tuber in a flowerpot on the windowsill together with a ordinary plant which never dries out. After this period of rest, put it back into the tank.

Arrived as bulb August 30, 2009
Reviewer: Hannah Anderson from Hermitage, TN United States
Arrived just with one little half inch sprout, but quickly grew several leaves.  The color is a light green, a little translucent.  Leaves are not yet very wavy, but I think that comes a little later.  Had the plant about 2 weeks now.  It's really beautiful.

Ordered a dozen plants, 2 were DOA, 2 died shortly after, but the rest were all gorgeous and bigger/fuller than expected.  Death may be due to 2 day shipping instead of overnight.

VERY fast grower May 3, 2009
Reviewer: Kris Norris from Hillsborough, NC United States
I bought one of these, cut all the leaves off and put it into the substrate. The next day there were four shoots about four inches long. By the morning of the next day the leaves were fully uncurled and about a foot high.  Three days later i had eight leaves all over a foot long and flower shoots about three feet long.  SNAILS LOVE IT and are eating them like crazy.  I wouldnt recommend this plant for anything smaller then a 55g (hopefully tall!)

Amazing Center Piece June 7, 2008
Reviewer: Eric Maxwell from Columbus, GA United States
This plant is very large! Definately not for a tank smaller than 20 gallons. Leaves are large and wavy, as well as slightly translucent. It is a bright, rich, green. This plant would definately be the highlight or centerpiece of a planted tank.
