Totally awesome stuff and about to order my 3rd pail for my 3rd tank. I had awful plants before using your substate. I also never experienced any crashes with my pH.
Just returned to tell you I ordered my 3rd pail because I love it so much but golly guys, I ordered about noon today and it's been shipped already. Awesome people to work with and an awesome product.

great stuff

I got the black substrate and it looks great with my planted 9gal with CO2 injection. A word of warning though. My water is relatively hard out of the tap, pH of 8.4, kH of 4, but when I filled up the tank for the first time the pH crashed down to 5.4 when I started up the CO2 and stayed there. I found later that the kH also crashed down to less than 1, so just be ready. You may need to get some baking soda out to stabilize the kH level. After adding about a total of 1 teaspoon of baking soda, my kH is now normal at 4, and I'm able to inject CO2 without huge pH swings.

This is a great substrate. I had plants that were almost dead. When I replanted them in this substrate they perked right up. Growing nicely now and faster than ever.

Beautiful Black Substrate
May 11, 2009
Reviewer: Rodney Pelles from Toccoa, GA United States
If you want beautiful live plants in your aquarium then don't cut corners with your substrate. This beautiful black substrate provides the fuel your plants need to grow. Cut the fuel and you'll cut the life source from your plants. Don't forget to have proper lighting as well. This substrate also provides a nice contrast with the plants and fish and because it is dark, the fish appear to be less stress due to its non reflective surface. This is especially true for most plecos since they are nocturnal in nature. The more natural your aquarium looks the more natural your fish will act. A+++++++

Very Pleased....

Reviewer: Timothy Gray from Ballwin, MO United States
What a great product! I recently swapped out all my gravel in my 125G with this substrate and I couldn't be happier. Some of my plants that were on the edge of extinction have come back to life and the others have never looked so good. I am going to try the fertilizer pellets next and see how that goes...
Also, the customer service at aquariumplants.com is amazing. I called on a Sunday thinking I would get a recording but it was worth a try. I was able to speak to someone who answered all 300 questions I had ( however annoying that must have been haha). Big thanks to Mark and all the people at aquariumplants.com!

AquariumPlants Substrate
April 5, 2009
Reviewer: Julius Metts from Orlando, FL United States
As a relative newcomer to planted aquariums I tried several products...I am convinced that this one is undoubtedly the best over all...Without CO2 addition I have had fabulous results with minimal effort...It does seem to produce a somewhat acidic environment, but not excessive...Very pleased!!!!!

i have tried in the past to make a planted aquarium without success. this time i started from scratch with this companys items and everything is growing wildly. the dark color of the substrate sets off the color of the plants nicely and the ph is staying lower than with other substrates i have used.

BEST SUBSTRATE ON THE MARKET
April 10, 2007
Reviewer: donald e from grand island, NE United States
This review is gonna be lenghty, but informative:
My son is a marine biologist (31 years) with tons of backround in freshwater fish & live plants. When I went to set up my 300 gallon aquarium, I asked for his help (again). Explaing to him I wanted the ultimate freshwater "planted" aquarium. Our first point of research was to get the BEST substrate available. Here's what we learned:
ECO-COMPLETE: Advertised as permanant, and nutrient complete. There in NO such substrate that is permanent, this is impossible. Also, it is "volcanic" meaning it has been baked to 1000's of degrees, sealing in any nutrients...so, the nutrients in it are not "available" to the plant roots.
SEACHEM FLOURITE: A somewhat natural clay based substrate that has not been processed or baked enough, so it turns to MUD. Also, advertised as permanent, but is not, 'cause as aforementioned, there is NO such substrate as permanent.

Amazing Substrate
December 12, 2006
Reviewer: Patrick Doyle from Glorieta, NM United States
I love this substrate! My new 65 gallon black tank and stand looks GREAT with this black substrate. The particle size is perfect and most amazingly, the tank was crystal clear the same day I setup with your substrate! One bucket covered my tank to a height of 3 inches, just like you promised.
