This plant normally grows fast, but the addition of CO2 may be necessary to promote growth. In small, open aquariums, it can grow out of the aquarium and form beautiful surface leaves. The finely branched leaves are very decorative and provide good contrast to other leaf shapes. In good light, Ceratopteris thalictroides grows fast and helps prevent algae by consuming large amounts of nutrients. This makes it a good starter plant in small aquariums. I personally recommend this beautiful plant for initial setups. It is fast growing and so helps to out compete algae. It is the first plant I started with as a child. Undemanding and easy to grow.

Amazing growth May 8, 2016

Fast and easy. Loves the high light, slow water side of the tank but growing fast everywhere I placed it. New shoots will be placed in a separate tank for future plantings. I love this stuff!

An Invaluable Aquatic Plant! January 2, 2016
Reviewer: Eric R. Wilson from Brooklyn, NY United States
I have included water sprite in my aquaria for almost 50 years. It is nature's water condition barometer. It's a vigorous grower - but only if your water quality is first rate. It also grows in varied forms. Planted, it's more wiry. Floating, it takes on a more broadleaf form. It serves as a formidable nursery, for livebearer fry, dropped in a community tank. Its fibrous roots house microorganisms that nourish the growing fry, and provide effective protection from predation.

Great Plant October 16, 2015

Beautiful, easy to grow, healthy plant.  Some fish like to eat it, but it doesn't seem to bother the plant, just keeps growing.

Never seen growth like this January 2, 2012
Reviewer: Steven Nilsen from Belmont, MA United States
Without CO2 injection, this plant grows like a weed.  Substrate could be anything.  Grows up at least 18" and spread out on surface.  Large branches quickly become new plants as they are bunched out.  Very aggressive.

Baby plants even grow well in a low light tank...

My betta really likes swimming in it, but otherwise the fish just tend to swim around it.
