Lobelia – Black Truffle (Lobelia Cardinalis Black Truffle)

Lobelia ‘Black Truffle’ cardinal flower is a stunning native perennial with dark chocolatey-purple foliage contrasting with its vibrant red flowers. ‘Black Truffle’ thrives in moist, well-drained soil and prefers partial shade to full sun gardens, a great choice for attracting pollinators along streams, in bogs, or in rain gardens. Like other cardinal flowers ‘Black Truffle’ is an absolute hummingbird magnet, with tubular, red flowers providing a rich source of nectar throughout the summer. Butterflies and bumblebees are also frequent visitors, drawn to the plant’s abundant nectar. Its compact, bushy habit and long-lasting foliage provide months of enjoyment in the garden.

Rising typically to a height of 2-3′ (infrequently to 4′). Tubular flowers are 2-lipped, with the three lobes of the lower lip appearing more prominent than the two lobes of the upper lip. Finely toothed, lance-shaped, dark green leaves (to 4″ long).
